Sunny Yoga was found by Sunny and Shannon McGill. Both received RYT200 hours yoga teacher training in 2011 with Yoga Vidya Peetham in India. Soon after they went back to assist and teach at a yoga teacher training school in Kerala, India. In 2012 they moved to Koh Phangan and have been teaching on the island since.
Teacher – Sunny (Sunsanee) McGill
Sunny is originally from Thailand but had moved to Canada in the year of 2000. She studied, lived and worked there for 11 years. Her yoga passion started in 2008 when she went for her first yoga session in Winnipeg. The first thought she had right after the session finished was “Wow, I want be a yoga teacher. I know I can do this!”.
During the time when she was living in Winnipeg (where the freezing cold is!) she worked in palliative care at a hospital. For many, this job is an eye opener, and it was for Sunny. Caring for people nearing the end of their life, she realized she should live and enjoy things she really loves and is passionate about before the end of her life. After a year of working at the hospital, she decided to move back to Thailand with her family, and started pursuing her yoga career soon after.
Sunny received her 200 hour yoga teacher certificate from yoga school in India. She was trained in Sivananda style. She started her teaching career in Bangkok area at a fitness centre then assisted and led at a few yoga teacher trainings in India. After returning from India, she decided to move to Koh Phangan, Thailand to start building her own yoga teaching business in 2012.
So far Sunny is the only Thai yoga teacher on Koh Phangan. She teaches in English and classes in Thai are available on request.
