A day at your Yoga Teacher Training…

Each morning, we wake to the sound of the Pacific Ocean, right in front of the villa, and observe morning silence as we begin to move through the day. We remain in peaceful silence as we meet together for morning meditation at 6:30am under the ocean-front palapa or in the yoga shala. Moving calmly and gently into our day, we align ourselves with nature and connect with our higher selves.

After meditation, we share an energising morning asana and pranayama practice. The morning practice will challenge you, invigorate you, teach you and transform you. Most importantly, you’ll have fun in the morning practice as you expand your awareness and grow your physical abilities with breath and movement, taking your body and mind to new places.

We break the silence at 9:00am with breakfast – a vegetarian or vegan offering prepared fresh everyday on-site by a local chef with locally sourced produce.

After breakfast, we rest our bodies and engage our minds as we move into our theory classes. We dig deep into the wisdom of yoga philosophy, where we learn, discuss and apply philosophical principles that offer light and colour to our own life experiences. We spend the late morning engaged in lectures and workshops – from Ayurveda to chanting and mantras, anatomy and physiology of the physical and energetic bodies and learning the basics of business and ethics for the real-world application of your newly gained skills.

Our daily lectures and workshops are broken up by a lunch-time snack on-site and a two-hour break, where you can enjoy time in the swimming pool, the ocean, hammocks or hang-out areas. The villa has free WiFi and plenty of space to be with yourself or spend time with your fellow students.

Evenings are spent gaining wonderful wisdom from Sunny and assistant teachers, as they teach asanas and their variations, hands-on adjustments, contraindications and counter-poses.

We round the day off with dinner and free-time. Puerto Escondido and the surrounds are full of magical and spiritual souls and beautiful nature. We can arrange massage and energy work for you, recommend local healers, tattoo artists, ecstatic dance, surf lessons and even night-time bioluminescence tours.

I am really happy I chose to do my yoga teacher training at Sunny Yoga! It was truly an amazing experience and the support received by the teachers was truly appreciated. Sunny is such a passionate teacher who is always open to your ideas and thoughts on something. She is very demanding, which I loved because it forces you to improve your practice. Yet, she was always happy to help with any questions or concerns we might have. I was really impressed with her commitment to her students :)”
